Peterborough Lions FC CIC is committed to keeping children and young people safe across all activities, projects and services, including Roots & Rise, M.A.D. (Make A Difference) and Peterborough Lions FC. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If you are worried about a child, do not wait for proof — report your concern without delay.
Recognising safeguarding concerns
Concerns may arise from:
• Something a child tells you
• A change in behaviour
• An injury or pattern of injuries
• Information from another person
• Online activity or communication
• Concerns involving another child or adult Concerns may include:
Physical, emotional or sexual abuse; neglect; domestic abuse; bullying; child-on-child abuse; online abuse; exploitation; radicalisation; or discriminatory behaviour.
If in doubt, speak to the DSL.
Responding to a concern or disclosure
Do:
• Listen carefully and remain calm
• Take the child seriously
• Reassure them they have done the right thing
• Explain that you must share the concern
• Report the concern immediately
• Make a factual written record as soon as possible Do not:
• Investigate the concern yourself
• Ask leading questions
• Promise confidentiality
• Delay reporting
• Discuss the concern widely
• Assume someone else will act

Immediate risk
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 immediately.
Then inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible.
If the concern is about the DSL
Report it to the Deputy DSL or a nominated senior leader.

Safeguarding information must be kept secure and only shared on a need-to-know basis where necessary to protect a child. The DSL is responsible for overseeing safeguarding records and information management.
Remember: You do not need to decide whether abuse has happened. Your role is to notice, listen, record and report.
